Bakugo vs Deku: Who Is a Worthier Inheritor of One for All in My Hero Academia?

When it was revealed that like his predecessors, Deku could also pass down his Quirk to someone else, the first question that everyone was contemplating was who Deku would choose to be his successor. But to everyone’s surprise, Deku gave his One for All Quirk to his friend Bakugo in the film My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, when there was no other way to defeat Nine. The fans were definitely surprised by such a plot twist since no one would have imagined that Bakugo would someday inherit One for All.

When Deku gave One for All to Bakugo, he had assumed that he would no longer be able to use it. He thought Bakugo would become the permanent holder of the mysterious Quirk, but to his surprise, it stayed with him. It seems like a tricky situation but did One for All make a mistake? Should it have stayed with Bakugo who is much more trained to utilize the full potential of the Quirk? Or was it the right thing that it remained with Deku who had proved himself over and over again that he is worthy of handling the responsibility given to him by All Might? Arguments can be made in favor of both scenarios. Both Bakugo and Deku are competent candidates for All for One. So, let’s look at why both of them deserve All for One and why it is a good thing that One for All remained with Deku.

Bakugo: Natural at using One for All

When Deku inherited One for All, he had to struggle a lot to handle its power. He would often break his body and struggle to use the full potential of the inherited Quirk. It wasn’t until he fought Stain that he could use it without breaking his body, and even then, he was only able to use it only in a limited amount. But Bakugo, on the other hand, proved to be much more efficient and natural when he got the Quirk. It took him no time at all to use its full potential, which can be attributed to his mastery of explosion Quirk. Bakugo seems to be much more physically and psychologically adept at inheriting the One for All in comparison to Deku who appears to have too many issues in mastering the mysterious Quirk.

Deku: More adapted to Physical strain of the Quirk

While Bakugo is without a doubt, naturally gifted and much more trained for inheriting One for All but Deku is physically adapted to its use. One for All is a powerful Quirk, and it has the potential to hurt its users as much as it can harm the opponents. When Bakugo used it, he ended up breaking his arm just like Deku, who too already had broken his arms. But Deku seemed much more relaxed in the situation as Bakugo wreathed in pain. It appears that with practice, Deku has gotten used to the physical damage that One for All can cause, but his indomitable spirit too might have something to do with it.

Bakugo: Already has a Quirk of his own

While Deku was born Quirkless, Bakugo was lucky enough to be gifted with a powerful and versatile Quirk. The Explosion Quirk is one of the most substantial Quirks, and since Bakugo had it since he was little, he was very well trained in using it. If used along with One for All the combination of the two Quirks can make Bakugo unstoppable. Since he can control both of them much more dexterously than Deku, therefore he is potentially more dangerous than even the top heroes combined. It seems like a good reason to give him the Quirk since he would make an ideal hero in the post All Might world of chaos and confusion.

Deku: All Might chose him

While it is logical to think of fighting prowess while deliberating over the worthy inheritor for One for All, but at the end of the day it’s up to the user of One for All to make the final call. All Might chose Deku to inherit his Quirk even though there were many worthier candidates, who were better trained than him. He truly believes that Deku has the right state of mind; one needs to be a hero; he never thinks for a second in helping others even though he has to put his own life on the line. These were the qualities that even hero killer Stain admired about Deku, and they ultimately were the reason that All Might chose him as his successor.

Bakugo: He fights to win

As villains are getting much more ruthless with each season, with the rise of League of Villains under the leadership of Shigaraki, it is the need of the hour that the number one hero is someone who can be just as ruthless in countering them. This is where Bakugo’s mindset fits well with current social conditions as he is someone who can answer the villains in their language. For him winning matters and he puts everything on the line for it. Therefore, when it comes to challenging the villains, Bakugo is much more capable of standing toe to toe against the most ruthless ones with the same intensity.

Deku: He fights to save others

Now, winning is essential; there are no questions about it. But Deku is exceptional as he fights not to win but to save others. His primary instincts come from very compassionate and empathetic feelings towards others. This is what makes him such a worthier candidate than Bakugo since he only cares for the well-being of others and fights to protect others not just to win. Fighting is not something that he enjoys, but even with his broken body, he keeps pushing himself to stand up for the people in need, and that’s what real heroes should do.

Bleach: Life of Shuhei Hisagi

Bleach has some characters that are very respectful and dutiful, like Byakuya Kuchiki and Ichigo Kurosaki. But very few of them can emulate the example set by Shuhei Hisagi.
